Canada Launches First Sovereign Wealth Fund
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced the launch of the Canada Strong Fund, which is the nation’s first sovereign wealth fund and has an initial value of $25 billion. The plan is to use this fund for financing large-scale projects within the nation such as clean energy, mining, and infrastructure through partnerships with the private sector. However, this plan has a unique strategy of allowing common Canadians to invest in this fund using their personal funds to receive dividends in a way similar to that of a mutual fund. Carney stressed the importance of this project by highlighting its focus on Indigenous partnerships and well-paid union jobs, partially financed by increased federal income through the price rise of oil.
